What To Expect
If you are new to the Ashland City, Pleasant View, Joelton, or Chapmansboro areas, welcome! We invite you to come and worship with us and we look forward to meeting you. Since visiting a new church can seem uncomfortable for some, go on our Facebook or YouTube pages by clicking on the social icons at the top of this page and watch some of our previous classes and worship services.
We invite you and welcome you to be our guest anytime! Feel free to park anywhere and sit anywhere you like. As you enter our building, you'll be greeted and welcomed. We positively love guests. We have both adult and children classes beginning at 9:30 a.m. followed by a worship service at 10:30 a.m.
Security. We have security cameras and we monitor them during each class, service, and event. Everyone's safety is our top priority.
Dress. We believe that the most important clothing you wear is internal (Colossians 3:12) – Compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. We also believe that it's more important that you are here rather than what you are wearing. So, you’ll see a variety of attire at our services. Most women here either wear pants or a dress. Most of our men don’t wear suits, though a few might. Jeans and knee-length shorts are fine for the kiddies. Evening services are generally more casual. Most of the men wear jeans or Docker type pants on Sunday and Wednesday nights.
Singing. The New Testament makes no mention of instrumental music in a worship service. Therefore, we praise God and edify one another through a cappella singing in the same manner as the early Christians did. We believe God wants us to sing from our hearts, and our hearts are the only instrument God is interested in hearing (Ephesians 5:19).
The Lord's Supper. Every Sunday, we observe the Lord’s Supper, which is a memorial established by Jesus Himself to commemorate His death on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins (Matthew 26:26-28; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26). The Lord’s Supper is a focal point of our services as we worship and show our thanks to Him. The first century church celebrated this observance on the first day of every week (Acts 20:7). We leave to each person the decision to participate.
Giving. In our Sunday worship services, our members give of their monetary means to the church in support of our ministries. As our guest, you are welcome to give but not expected to (I Corinthians 16:1-2; II Corinthians 9:7).
Prayer. Prayers are offered at various times in each service as we depend on as well as we want to thank God. We offer prayers of supplication and thanksgiving (1 Timothy 2:1-8; Acts 2:42; 1 Thessalonians 5:17). If you have a specific prayer request, let us know and we will try to include it in our service.
Preaching. You'll notice that the preacher is referred to as minister and does not have a title such as Pastor or Reverend. He won’t be wearing any ecclesiastical vestments (special robes) to set him apart. The reason for this is our belief in the priesthood of all believers (1 Peter 2:5-9). We affirm that all believers are the same in God's sight. The sermon is the time when the “good news” of God’s love and Jesus’ redemptive life is proclaimed and applied to our lives today. You will find the sermons here to be encouraging, relevant, and strictly Bible-centered.
Invitation. At the close of each sermon, the minister will extend an invitation, which is simply a time to invite those who are moved to do so to come forward to make a commitment or request prayer. There may be several who respond, or there may be none. Some may confess sins privately to the minister, some may ask for prayer, and some may want to place membership with this church. For those who respond for baptism, you will witness them being baptized right then and there and they will be fully immersed for the remission of sin (Acts 2:38).
Services. Worship services should be moving, unique, engaging, and uplifting (John 4:24) – But more than that, they should be true to God, who is the Author of Truth (John 17:17) and the Way of Truth (John 14:6). Each Sunday at 9:30 a.m. and each Wednesday at 6;30 p.m., we have a formal Bible study class. Each Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. we have a worship service.
For our young people, we have a thriving youth group with a designated youth minister and experienced teachers that mentor various age groups from ages 6 months to 18 years. There are Bible-focused activities scheduled each month for the group to participate in. There's also a lot of fun planned for them on a regular basis as well.
